UNM Chair meets Congressman Joe Wilson

Chair of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party, Tina Bokuchava met Congressman Joe Wilson, the party reported.

According to the UNM party, Tina Bokuchava addressed the European People’s Party in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA).

She said in a speech that she had recently taken up the post since the former chair resigned due to a physical assault organized by the Georgian government, adding such attacks had become recent, while the assailants remained unpunished.

“It is important to admit that Russia’s influence on Georgia is expanding rapidly. Regrettably, the destabilization source is not from outside but within the country and this is the anti-Western, anti-European and anti-democratic Georgian government, which intensifies ties not only with Russia but also with other authoritarian countries like China.

Selling Anaklia Deep Sea Port to China clearly demonstrates how the Georgian government tries to reverse the country’s Euro-Atlantic course. The representation of this modification was the adoption of the Russian-style so-called foreign agents law. All parliamentary assemblies, including NATO and PACE, fixed their viewpoints about this law in their resolutions and statements.

Therefore, I believe that the OSCE PA has to express concern over the situation’s worsening in Georgia. Vital parliamentary elections will be held in October and I ask you all to participate in the election observation mission. Georgian people have to know that the civilized world stands with them! It is significant for Georgia’s partners that the Georgian people’s European integration aspirations won!” she said.
