UNM Chair: Georgian people decided on new elections; our goal to hold them promptly

Tina Bokuchava, the chair of the opposition United National Movement party, asserted that the Georgian people have chosen to demand new elections and the release of political prisoners, with public protests rallying around these objectives.

According to Bokuchava, holding elections as soon as possible is crucial to this struggle.

“It is not within the purview of Ivanishvili’s pocket prosecutor’s office to determine whether new elections will occur. The Georgian people have already made this decision.

The nationwide protests call for elections free of Ivanishvili’s influence over the State Security Service (SSG) and the Central Election Commission (CEC), as well as for the release of political prisoners. This united demand reflects a clear public consensus, irrespective of the prosecutor’s office. While the timeline is still under discussion, our goal is to hold elections promptly to prevent further human rights violations by Ivanishvili’s repressive machinery,” Bokuchava stated.

Meanwhile, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia has provided an update on the ongoing investigation into potential election fraud. According to the office, approximately 800 investigative and procedural actions have been carried out as part of the inquiry. This includes a series of investigative experiments involving foreign experts and the appointment of relevant examinations.

The office noted that during court sessions, most witnesses were unable to provide concrete evidence, largely relying on unverified claims and information drawn from media sources. Some witnesses reportedly admitted that their allegations of election fraud were intended as preventative measures. Furthermore, these findings effectively eliminate the theoretical possibility of a single voter casting repeated or multiple votes at either different or the same polling station.
