UNM Chair communicates desire for future coalition engagement to President
“It is crucial to form a coalition government without delay, and we believe the president’s role in this process is significant. We welcome the steps she has already taken to encourage political parties to actively engage in discussions on this matter. Our primary focus now is on securing victory in the historic elections scheduled for October 26,” stated Tina Bokuchava, the Unity-National Movement Chair, following her meeting with President Salome Zourabichvili.
Bokuchava emphasized that delaying coalition negotiations after the elections is unacceptable, as it could result in a governmental vacuum.
“At this meeting, the most important takeaway was that President Zourabichvili shares our strong belief in the triumph of Georgia’s European aspirations in the upcoming elections. We expect that the Georgian people will once again resoundingly express their support by saying ‘Yes to Europe!’ This is our principal objective in these historic elections,” she remarked.
Regarding the future coalition government, Bokuchava noted that specific candidates for the position of Prime Minister were not discussed during the meeting.
“The future government will indeed be a coalition, and the president will play a vital role in these negotiations, which need to be concluded successfully and promptly. We also conveyed to the president our eagerness to engage with the political parties that will become our future coalition partners. It is important to reach a consensus on this matter, to promote unity, and to demonstrate to the citizens of Georgia that, despite our differences, we can come together for our common interests and the country’s European future,” Bokuchava added.
