UNM Chair claims October 26 marks day to free ex-President Saakashvili
In Zugdidi, Tina Bokuchava, the United National Movement Chair, declared that October 26 would be a day to reclaim national dignity and release President Mikheil Saakashvili.
Speaking to the people of Samegrelo, she stated, “Samegrelo does not apologize! The Georgian people and state do not apologize to the enemy! October 26 is the day we will reclaim our national dignity and free President Saakashvili.”
Bokuchava emphasized the region’s historical significance in Georgia’s struggle for freedom, referencing figures like Davit Agmashenebeli and the pivotal role of Samegrelo in the Rose Revolution, which launched in Tsalenjikha under Saakashvili’s leadership in 2003. She accused Bidzina Ivanishvili of fearing the resilience of Samegrelo’s people, noting an attack on their supporters in Zugdidi as an expression of that fear.
She reiterated the party’s vision for the future under a new government, with promises to initiate negotiations for EU membership and create a brighter economic outlook.
“In a very short time, our country will be a worthy member of the European Union,” she asserted, pledging to bring European standards in wages, healthcare, and education.
Bokuchava concluded by honouring Giuli Alasania, mother of Saakashvili, describing her as a symbol of resilience and hope.
“With President Mikheil Saakashvili and the Georgian people, the United National Movement will achieve victory for our country on October 26,” she said.
