“President Saakashvili pledged non-use of force back in 2011, with the primary goal of securing a similar commitment from Russia,” stated Tina Bokuchava, the United National Movement Chair. She criticized Irakli Kobakhidze’s potential announcement at the UN General Assembly that Georgia would commit to refraining from the use of force against the regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali.
Bokuchava emphasized that Russia has long sought to have the occupied regions recognized as independent parties, suggesting that the Georgian government’s statement might inadvertently facilitate this objective.
“The recognition of the occupation regimes in these regions as parties is precisely what Russia has been attempting to achieve for years. Now, it seems that the Georgian government, from the highest platform, is making a statement that the Kremlin has demanded for ages. This marks a troubling chapter in the ongoing betrayal and the division of Georgia’s territory.
Therefore, we must raise the alarm and alert the international community to prevent this betrayal. I reiterate: this is precisely what Russia has pursued for years, and what Ivanishvili and his treacherous government are executing on behalf of the state of Georgia,” Bokuchava declared.
