Unity-National Movement's Vashadze to GD: Prioritize local dialogue
“Do not attempt to send representatives to other countries; no one will engage with you abroad anymore. Let’s have a conversation here in Georgia,” Giorgi Vashadze, one of the leaders of the Unity-National Movement, stated in response to a journalist’s question about the meeting between U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Jim O’Brien and Archbishop Jacob of Bodbe.
Vashadze asserted that the Georgian Dream is failing and that Bidzina Ivanishvili, the GD honorary Chair, is seeking security guarantees.
“I reiterate that the Georgian Dream is faltering and is preparing to relinquish control of the government. Ivanishvili now seeks specific security guarantees. Rather than looking elsewhere, engage with us, cede power to us, and this transition will proceed smoothly and peacefully. We can address all pertinent issues right here in Georgia,” he said.
He emphasized the necessity for a peaceful transfer of power, suggesting that the Georgian Dream would not secure more than 20% of the votes in the upcoming elections.
“They are well aware of this, which is why they are attempting to shield themselves. There is no need to fear or be anxious; everything will be alright. Georgia will become a member of the European Union. Let us agree that the transfer of power should occur peacefully and quietly,” Vashadze concluded.
