Unity-National Movement and Coalition for Change refuse to submit asset declarations, rejecting parliament's legitimacy
Members of the Unity-National Movement coalition declare that they do not intend to submit asset declarations in their capacity as parliament members.
According to Irakli Pavlenishvili, they will not participate in any way in the so-called parliament, which he says was not elected by the Georgian people.
“The Anti-Corruption Bureau has addressed the members of the United National Movement requesting that we submit our asset declarations as so-called parliament members. We have repeatedly stated that we did not, do not, and will not plan to participate in any way in that so-called parliament which was not elected by the Georgian people. In this case, it betrays Georgia’s state interests, constitutional principles, and Western course, participates in human rights violations, and creates a legislative framework to tighten the brutal and Soviet-style human rights policy.
Therefore, we declare that we have not taken the oath, we do not receive salaries, and we do not participate in any activities of the so-called parliament. We have never been against making our asset declarations transparent, including the declarations we submitted to the same bureau several months ago. We can publicize everything in a different format. By the way, others, including the Georgian Dream members, haven’t made theirs public, but we can present ours in any format. The parliament member format is not our format because we are not members of the so-called parliament by any indication and don’t plan to be in the future,” stated Irakli Pavlenishvili, the Unity-National Movement coalition member.
Additionally, the Coalition for Change issued a statement saying that coalition members will not fill out official asset declarations.
“The Coalition for Change does not recognize the October 26 elections falsified in Russian style and does not acknowledge the legitimacy of the so-called parliament. That is precisely why we rejected parliamentary mandates, funding, and other privileges.
Therefore, our coalition’s unified position is not to fill out official asset declarations. Following transparency principles and legal requirements, our declarations as parliamentary candidates were completed before the 2024 elections. Now, at this historic moment for our homeland, it is each of our duty to continue working on the non-recognition policy and, together with the Georgian people, achieve freedom for political prisoners and new and fair elections,” reads the statement.
