UK proposes to Germany to exchange Taurus missiles for Storm Shadow
British Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, David Cameron offered Germany an alternative for possible supplies of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, Interfax Ukraine reported.
According to his plan, Germany will transfer Taurus missiles to Great Britain, and London will in return transfer additional Storm Shadows to Ukraine, Cameron said in an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung edition.
Cameron called his proposal a “ring exchange” but declined to reveal details.
“We are committed to working closely with our German partners on this issue, as on everything else, to help Ukraine,” he said.
The minister also dismissed concerns that the transfer of cruise missiles could lead to escalation.
“It is entirely possible to place restrictions on the use of these weapons to ensure that they do not in any way contribute to escalation,” he said, stressing that Britain trusts Ukraine.
