UK PM congratulates Irakli Kobakhidze on appointment as Georgian PM
Rishi Sunak, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, congratulated Irakli Kobakhidze on the appointment as Georgian Prime Minister.
Rishi Sunak, in his congratulatory letter, underscored that over 30 years since the restoration of the diplomatic relations, the friendship between Georgia and the UK “has flourished.”
“I would like to offer my warm congratulations on your appointment as Prime Minister of the Republic of Georgia.
I am proud that, over more than 30 years since the restoration of our diplomatic relations, the friendship between our two countries has flourished. The closeness of our relationship is captured in the UK-Georgia Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, spanning political, security, commercial and cultural links, as well as the annual Wardrop Strategic Dialogue.
I am well aware of the deep resonance that Russia’s unprovoked and brutal war in Ukraine has for the people of Georgia. It touches on painful memories and demonstrates the unrelenting challenges that Georgia faces today. You can be assured that the UK will remain resolute in our support for Georgia’s sovereignty, and territorial integrity and against Russian aggression.
We continue to be inspired by Georgia’s commitment to freedom and democratic values. I am delighted that our governments are working closely together to deliver the reforms required to realise Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations and to strengthen your cyber resilience against Russian hybrid aggression.
I wish you every success in your new role and look forward to working with you to strengthen further our partnership,” he said.
