UK Ambassador urges all sides to refrain from violence saying 'Any case of violence in politics unacceptable'
“Any case of violence in politics is unacceptable,” emphasized Mark Clayton, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Georgia, during an interaction with journalists.
Responding to questions regarding the reported incidents of verbal and physical abuse directed at journalists from Imedi TV Company, as well as the obstacles hindering their professional duties, Clayton stated that this is a sensitive period for Georgia.
He urged all parties involved to refrain from resorting to violence.
“I can only echo actually what my European colleague said yesterday. Any case of violence in politics is unacceptable. I recognize that it’s a sensitive time in Georgia at the moment. There is a really heartfelt, strong feeling against the current law on the transparency of foreign influence, but similarly, there is also a very strong position from the government. The only thing I can do is call for no violence from all sides,” the UK Ambassador declared.
