U.S. House of Representatives approved impeachment charges against Donald Trump
The U.S. House of Representatives has approved impeachment charges against US President Donald Trump.
House of Representatives formally charged him with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
The first charge is abuse of power, stemming from Trump’s alleged attempt to pressure Ukraine to announce investigations into his Democratic political rival, Joe Biden. It passed by 230 votes to 197.
The second charge is obstruction of Congress, because the president allegedly refused to co-operate with the investigation related to impeachment case. It passed by 229-198.
Donald Trump has become the third US president in history to be impeached by the House of Representatives.
The Senate must make a final decision on Donald Trump’s presidency, where President Trump’s Republicans hold a majority. The process in the Senate will begin in January.
