Turkish President offers his condolences to Georgian PM, people, over Shovi tragedy
President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, expressed his grief over the victims of the Shovi resort tragedy and offered his condolences to the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili, and the Georgian people.
“I learned with great sadness about the death and injuries of many people as a result of the landslide in Georgia. On behalf of my people and myself, I offer my condolences to your Excellency, friend and neighboring Georgian people and the relatives of the deceased,” he said.
The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs published the Turkish President’s condolence letter.
The death toll in the landslide-ravaged Shovi resort of Oni Municipality rose to 24 on August 11. Nine people are still missing, and rescue efforts continue at various locations.
