Traffic to be restricted due to Family Purity Day procession

Due to a procession marking Family Purity Day, traffic will be temporarily restricted on several streets in Tbilisi on May 17. The procession will move from Rustaveli Avenue to the Holy Trinity (Sameba) Cathedral. Tbilisi City Hall has issued a statement detailing the changes.

Traffic restrictions will be introduced gradually between 01:00 and 22:00 along the route from Kashveti Cathedral to Sameba Cathedral. The procession will begin near Kashveti Cathedral.

During the event, vehicle movement will be restricted on the stretch from the intersection of Gia Chanturia Street and Rustaveli Avenue to Liberty Square, Nikoloz Baratashvili Bridge, Baratashvili Hill, Avlabari Square.

From Rustaveli Avenue, you can reach the upper streets of the Mtatsminda district via I. Tarkhnishvili, T. Chovelidze, and M. Zandukeli streets. After that, continue on Vasil Barnovi, I. Gogebashvili, Maro Makashvili, and Dzhmebi Kakabadze streets.

For access to Melikishvili Avenue and the area around Rustaveli metro station from other streets in the Mtatsminda district, citizens can use A. Griboedov, Maro Makashvili, Vasil Barnovi, M. Zandukeli, and A. Shanidze streets.

Private vehicles travelling from the area surrounding Rustaveli metro station to Liberty Square can drive along Rustaveli Avenue until they reach the intersection with G. Chanturia Street. From there, vehicles should continue on G. Chanturia Street and along the right bank of the Mtkvari River.

When Liberty Square is completely restricted, vehicles will be allowed to access the ramp near Nikoloz Baratashvili Bridge and proceed to Gia Chanturia Street from Rustaveli Avenue. Additionally, movement will be restricted on Kote Abkhaz and Shalva Dadiani streets towards Liberty Square.

Traffic will be allowed on Rustaveli Avenue up to Gia Chanturia Street. However, movement towards Rustaveli Avenue will be restricted on L. Ukrainka, A. Jorjadze, Z. Chichinadze, 9 April, A. Purtseladze, and L. Gudiashvili streets.

From Liberty Square, the procession will head towards the Trinity Cathedral, with Nikoloz Baratashvili Bridge, Baratashvili Hill, and Avlabari Square closed in sequence.

During the restrictions on Nikoloz Baratashvili Street, vehicles can move toward Liberty Square using the right bank of the Mtkvari River and Kote Abkhazi Street. Vehicles heading toward Avlabari can travel through the Dry Bridge, utilizing K. Khetagurov Street and the left bank of the Mtkvari River.

Moreover, when traffic is restricted on Avlabari Square, vehicles from Ketevan Dedopli Avenue will detour using Bochormi Street, Yalbuzi Street, and the left bank of the Mtkvari River. Vehicles heading toward Ketevan Dedopli Avenue, after turning onto Nikoloz Baratashvili Street, will take the Baratashvili Bridge along the left bank of the Mtkvari River, then continue along Yalbuzi and Bochormi Streets, as well as Ketevan Dedopli Avenue, towards Avlabari Square.

Public transport from Merab Kostava Street to Baratashvili Street will travel via Mikheil Javakhishvili Street and the right bank of the Mtkvari River. Buses and minibuses from Baratashvili Street will follow the established route.

When traveling in the opposite direction, from Nikoloz Baratashvili Street to Merab Kostava Street, buses and minibuses will head to the left bank of the Mtkvari River. From there, they will connect to the Nikoloz Baratashvili Bridge, turn right to the right bank of the Mtkvari, and then use Javakhishvili Street to reach Merab Kostava Street, continuing on their established route.

For public transport moving from Avlabari to Merab Kostava Street, vehicles will connect to the right bank of the Mtkvari via the Nikoloz Baratashvili Bridge. They will then use Javakhishvili Street to arrive at Merab Kostava Street, after which they will proceed according to the established route.
