The Georgian national team finished third in its group during the World Championship qualification stage, earning the right to compete in the finals.
“That was the most emotional game I had ever played for the Georgian national team. I am delighted with my teammates, coaches, and fellow Georgians. I am proud to have been given a chance to make my people happy. It was the toughest game. Iceland fought throughout the game. But, our team performed admirably and met the objective,” Tornike Shengelia, a Georgian basketball player, stated after the game.
Georgia lost 80-77 at home to Iceland on February 26, but it was enough to lock up third place in Group L of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 European Qualifiers.
