Today is Holy Friday, also known as Red Friday, a day when Orthodox Christians commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. This day is the hardest among the days of Holy Week that precede Easter Sunday.

No services are conducted at temples as a sign of respect to Jesus Christ’s sacrifice to save mankind.

Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II will perform a symbolic ritual of removal of Jesus Christ’ body from the cross, in Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral at 14:00 today.

Eggs are painted red and Paska, special Easter bread, is made on this day.
