Ten law enforcers participated in the dispersal of recent protest suspended from duties
10 law enforcers participated in the dispersal of the recent protest have been suspended from duties – Mamuka Chelidze, acting director of the Central Criminal Police Department made the regarding statement at the briefing.
According to him, signs of crime have been identified in the actions of two law enforcement officers.
“As it is known, peaceful rally was held nearby the Georgian Parliament, on Rustaveli Avenue, on June 20-21, 2019, which later acquired a violent nature – participants of the rally attempted to storm the Parliament building, attacked the police in a group and resisted the Police with various blunt objectives.
In order to prevent possible threats and disperse the rally, the police were forced to use special means in compliance with the law.
We would like to inform the public that the General Inspection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is conducting investigation into alleged violations committed by individual law enforcers during the dispersal.
Within these activities, at this stage, 10 law enforcement officers participating in the dispersal of the rally have already been suspended from duties. The signs of crime have been identified in the actions of two law enforcement officers. Accordingly, the materials will be forwarded to the General Prosecutor’s Office for further reaction”, – Mamuka Chelidze stated.
