Tbilisi Mayor: Zourabichvili to depart not as former, but as dismissed president
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has accused Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili of repeatedly violating the Constitution, asserting that she consistently disregards the law.
According to Kaladze, due to her actions, Zourabichvili will leave office not as a former president, but as a dismissed one.
“She has committed specific violations, and this is not the first time. It is disappointing to witness such an attitude toward the state, especially, coming from the president, who should be the foremost advocate for upholding the Constitution. What she is doing is incomprehensible—she has crossed the line as if no law or Constitution exists. There have even been instances where the court has found her guilty of violating the Constitution, yet she continues to behave in the same manner.
Therefore, when her term concludes—which will be very soon—she will not be remembered as a former president but rather as a dismissed one, because she has shown blatant disrespect for state institutions and the Constitution. Her unauthorized travels represent a flagrant constitutional violation. Without the government’s and Prime Minister’s permission, she has no right to undertake such visits. If everyone acted based on their own decisions—if the Prime Minister did what the Parliament Speaker is supposed to do, or if the Speaker acted as the President—why would we need a Constitution or laws? What purpose do they serve if they are not upheld and respected?” Kaladze stated.
Regarding Zourabichvili’s claim that the Transparency Law would be repealed if the opposition won, Kaladze dismissed this possibility, asserting that the ruling party would triumph again in the elections.
“The opposition has zero chance of winning the elections. It is simply impossible and unthinkable. There is no need to speculate on scenarios that do not exist and are theoretically impossible. Georgian Dream is the only team with a genuine opportunity to secure a constitutional majority,” Kaladze added.
