Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze commented on President Salome Zourabichvili’s statement, expressing his belief that the president will act as instructed, prolonging the process and ultimately vetoing the “On transparency of foreign influence” law.
“It is evident from the president’s remarks that she is not acting on her own, but rather following instructions. She’ll likely utilize the veto terms to delay the process and eventually veto the law. We’re open to hearing arguments from our foreign partners after the veto. If there are valid reasons why this law should not be enacted, we are willing to listen. However, until then, we haven’t heard any convincing arguments against it. The law is simply about transparency; if NGOs need to submit annual declarations, why should that be problematic? We remain open to discussion and await any substantive arguments,” Kakha Kaladze stated.
