Tbilisi City Court is holding a trial of ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili for the state border illegal crossing. Mikheil Saakashvili refused to participate in today’s hearing remotely.
The investigation determined that the ex-president crossed the state border illegally by entering Georgia’s territory on a Ukrainian ship that docked Poti port on September 28. Then he travelled by truck carrying dairy products.
The investigation also determined the exact route of Saakashvili’s movement in Georgia and questioned 69 persons in connection with the case.
Law enforcers arrested Mikheil Saakashvili in Tbilisi on October 1. He has been on a hunger strike since the arrest.
The ex-president is charged with several criminal offences. In 2018, he was sentenced to six years in prison in absentia for abuse of power.
