Tamar Chugoshvili: If president suspends pardoning, it will not recover the life of a particular person

The first Vice-Speaker of the Parliament Tamar Chugoshvili thinks that the president and his administration should exercise extreme caution when it deals with any violent crime.

Tamar Chugoshvili criticized the pardon statistics of the President and said that no country has the similar statistics.

“We saw the result – pardoned person committed a brutal murder. President and his administration should exercise extreme caution when it deals with any violent crime. If president suspends pardoning, it will not recover the life of a particular person. Such form of mechanism does not fit any logic. Maybe in other countries there is such an analogue and I have not heard about it, but pardon is an act used in isolated cases, and not an act in respect of hundreds, dozens of people” – Vice-Speaker of the Parliament said.

The Pardoning Commission temporarily suspends issuance of pardon acts on violent crimes, – Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili made this statement at the briefing held today. The decision was reasoned by the murder case, which occurred at Barnovi Street in Tbilisi on April 13. The person accused in Barnovi Street murder was pardoned by the President several months ago.
