Strong Georgia's Dolidze: EU considers pressure mechanisms, including visa-free suspension, over stolen elections
“The chairs of Foreign Affairs Committees from different countries discussed the mechanisms the European Union should introduce in response to the rigged elections,” said Ana Dolidze, one of the leaders of the Strong Georgia coalition.
She emphasized that the EU’s top decision-makers recognize that the elections were rigged and are considering various mechanisms to address the situation.
“The discussion centred on the measures that the European Union should implement in response to the situation. What actions should be taken? Options include imposing high-level sanctions, targeting individuals responsible for rigging the elections, and even considering the suspension of visa-free travel. There were examples mentioned where visa-free travel was revoked following instances of stolen elections. All potential measures are on the table. The participants are convinced that the elections were rigged, and now it is essential to begin the internal processes for implementing these actions. Today, we reviewed all the necessary pressure mechanisms to ensure these elections are not recognized,” Dolidze declared.
