Strong Georgia Coalition's Khazaradze: While Saakashvili gets 90 minutes to discuss any topic, I'm denied addressing critical national issues in court
Mamuka Khazaradze, one of the leaders of the Strong Georgia coalition, was questioned before a magistrate judge as part of an investigation into possible election fraud.
After leaving the courthouse, Khazaradze told journalists, “It’s becoming something of a theatrical show, with political party leaders being summoned to court.”
“The country is in a deplorable state when the prosecutor’s office is questioning political party leaders about election fraud – something that the entire nation, public, NGOs, and international observers are already well aware of. Countless videos have been shared on live broadcasts, Facebook, and social media, showing numerous individuals involved in everything from fraud to violence.
Regrettably, I haven’t seen any of those perpetrators brought here. Instead, it’s turning into a show where political party leaders come to court and stand before cameras, seemingly to warn the public that ‘if we’re being summoned today, you might be next.’
This won’t work – this Soviet-style prosecution and these demonstrative court sessions won’t succeed. Whenever I tried to provide any analysis, they immediately stopped me, saying ‘we are not discussing that.’ Whenever I attempted to assess the country’s situation and explain why we were in this predicament, they would say ‘We are not interested in that.’ So what are they interested in? There’s a clear double standard here.
As I pointed out, while Mikheil Saakashvili is allowed an hour and a half to discuss any topic he wishes, I’m apparently not permitted to address issues concerning the election that are troubling our nation. I didn’t venture into any other subjects,” Khazaradze stated.
