Strong Georgia coalition calls for transparency, submit declarations
“Despite having individually renounced our mandates and withdrawn our parliamentary list, we, the members of Strong Georgia, remain committed to upholding the law, adhering to the principle of accountability to the Georgian citizens, and filing our declarations,” Irakli Kupradze, a member of the Strong Georgia coalition, declared.
Kupradze emphasized that this commitment makes them accountable solely to the Georgian people. He further articulated their “categorical demand for the publication of declarations from the self-proclaimed state officials, office holders, and politicians associated with the Georgian Dream party, as well as from all individuals legally obligated to file such declarations.”
He criticized the Anti-Corruption Bureau, calling it a “puppet entity of Georgian Dream’s illegitimate government,” and noted that it has ceased publishing property declarations from corrupt officials within the party. Kupradze argued that this action directly undermines the principles of public accountability, openness, and transparency that the Bureau is meant to uphold.
Following the appointment of Razhden Kuprashvili as the agency’s head, he claimed the public could no longer access crucial information about how the servants of Ivanishvili were amassing wealth at the expense of the impoverished Georgian populace and the misappropriation of the national budget.
“We, the members of Strong Georgia, while respecting the law and the principle of accountability to our constituents, emphasize that we are answerable only to the Georgian people, our voters. These represent the fundamental rights of oversight and engagement in a democratic society, along with our obligations to the public,” he stated.
Kupradze reiterated their demand for the immediate public disclosure of declarations from Georgian Dream’s officials.
“Filing a declaration is a politician’s responsibility to their constituents. Failing to disclose or not submitting a declaration contravenes the essential tenets of transparency and democracy, thus constituting a violation of the law,” Kupradze said.
He accused Georgian Dream of either concealing their declarations or failing to file them altogether, asserting it is an attempt to hide their wrongdoings and the enrichment they gain at the expense of the Georgian people.
“We, Strong Georgia, have nothing to hide, unlike the corrupt members of the Georgian Dream. Those who are transparent report forthrightly to society. We reiterate – our obligation to file property declarations is not to this illegitimate parliament or any other unrecognized authority, but to the Georgian people, our electorate, and the law,” Kupradze affirmed.
