Street named after the hero of August 2008 war Ushangi Sopromadze in Tbilisi
At the initiative of Naming and Symbolic Commission of Tbilisi Sakrebulo (City Assembly), the unnamed street and its three lanes in a so-called military town in Isani district in Tbilisi has been named after Junior Sergeant Ushangi (Shmagi) Sopromadze.
The street naming ceremony has been held today, which was attended by Giorgi Tkemaladze, Chairman of Tbilisi Sakrebulo, Sakrebulo members, representatives of the Ministry of Defence, and family members of Ushangi (Shmagi) Sopromadze.
The Naming and Symbolic Commission of Tbilisi Sakrebulo (City Assembly) made the regarding decision on September 11, 2018.
Junior Sergeant Ushangi (Shmagi) Sopromadze was born on June 5, 1983 in the village of Dzevri. During the August 2008 war, he served in the 1st Battalion of the Georgian Armed Forces. He was taken captive while trying to pull his wounded fellow warriors out. Ushangi Sopromadze was tortured for several days. When refused to stand on the state flag he was executed by firing squad.
