Strategy Agmashenebeli supports presidential election procedure initiative, acknowledges more pressing issues
Paata Manjgaladze, a member of the Strategy Agmashenebeli party, has announced support for the initiative put forward by the For Georgia party on the procedure for electing the president.
He emphasized that Strategy Aghmashenebeli has consistently advocated for the direct election of the president.
“When changes were made to the Constitution, and the presidential election procedure was altered, we did not support it. We have consistently favoured the people electing the president as it implies a higher degree of independence and legitimacy,” Manjgaladze stated.
“However, there are currently more pressing issues for the people than debating the models for electing the president,” he added.
The For Georgia party initiated amending the procedure for electing the president in Georgia’s Constitution. Beka Liluashvili, speaking at a press conference, stated that the party proposes a return to the previous rule, where the citizens elect the president directly rather than through an electoral college.
