Stephen Doughty expresses concern over pressure on civil society, anti-western rhetoric
“I expressed my deep concerns regarding pressure on civil society, human rights, and anti-western rhetoric. These actions undermine its citizens clear ambition for a modern, inclusive, Euro-Atlantic future,” said Stephen Doughty, British Minister of State for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories, remaking on his conversation with Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili.
According to Stephen Doughty, he and the FM spoke about UK-Georgia relations and European security.
“I spoke to Georgian FM Ilia Darchiashvili this week to discuss UK-Georgia relations and European security. The UK is contributing to the OSCE monitoring mission in support of a free and fair election in Georgia.
I also expressed my deep concerns regarding pressure on civil society, human rights, and anti-western rhetoric. These actions undermine its citizens clear ambition for a modern, inclusive, Euro-Atlantic future and jeopardise the UK’s close partnership with Georgia,” he wrote on the X Platform.
