SSG Head: Political tension inspired by destructive forces adds to 2022 security challenges
The State Security Service of Georgia (SSG) had to protect the national interests in a complex and unpredictable environment, said SSG Head Grigol Liluashvili, presenting his annual report in the parliament.
According to Liluashvili, the war in Ukraine put Georgia and many countries in the region in the face of threats and challenges. The Russian Federation’s military intervention in Ukraine directly affected the European and global security order.
“The created situation highlighted the dangers facing our country being under occupation and increased the pressure on the social-political life and stability of the country. At the same time, the ongoing military conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan remained a challenge for security.
In 2022, the internal political tension inspired by destructive forces added to the complex processes and security challenges around Georgia,” he said.
As Grigol Liluashvili noted, the SSG did its best to avoid processes targeted against national interests and stability in coordination with state institutions, international partners, and colleague agencies.
“Peace and stability were preserved in the country. Georgia was protected from terrorist attacks, uncontrolled and damaging activities of special services of foreign countries, disturbances and destabilization inspired by external or internal forces,” he said.
