SSG detains one individual over false alarm of explosive on Wizz Air plane board
The State Security Service of Georgia (SSG) detained one Georgian citizen in the case of a false alarm of an explosive on board the Wizz Air plane.
According to the SSG, the individual used a mobile phone, belonging to another person to make a call from a Georgian cell phone operator to the headquarters office of the Hungarian low-cost air company to notify about an explosive on board of the plane.
The detainee faces from 3 to 6, or 6 to 9 years in prison on the charge of false notification on terrorism under Article 331 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, the SSG said.
On February 14, the plane of Wizz Air company, scheduled to implement the Kutaisi-Barcelona flight, turned back and landed at the Kutaisi International Airport due to the threat of an explosive on board.
The Airport Administration said the aircraft returned several minutes after it took off as the crew decided. All relevant services were mobilized to carry out search works.
After inspection, the United Airports of Georgia said an explosive on board the Wizz Air plane was not confirmed.
