SSG arrests two for firearms and ammunition storage amid terrorism probe
The Georgian State Security Service(SSG), as part of an ongoing investigation into a terrorist crime, has arrested two Georgian citizens for the illegal purchase and storage of firearms and ammunition.
According to the SSG, a special operation was conducted simultaneously at two locations in Batumi. The law enforcers seized automatic firearms, pistols, hand grenades, symbolic flags of the terrorist organization Islamic State and various other pieces of evidence critical to the investigation from the residences of the arrested individuals.
“The Counter-Terrorist Center of the State Security Service is investigating the case under Articles 236 and 328 of the Criminal Code, which prescribes 3 to 6 years and 10 to 17 years imprisonment respectively.
Additionally, active counter-terrorist measures are underway to determine the arrested individuals’ connections with the Islamic State terrorist organization,” the SSG stated.
