Special Penitentiary Service: Indicators within norms after Saakashvili's toxicological examination

The head of the medical department of the Special Penitentiary Service, Malkhaz Urtkhmelidze, on Wednesday, said jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili underwent a toxicological examination on May 31 in a bid to clarify the diagnosis. According to the findings, “all indicators were within the normal range.”

According to the parameters of the MAYO CLINIC laboratory, “which is considered the leading laboratory, the mercury content found in the convict’s hair is twice less than the permissible norm,” Urtkhmelidze continued.

Moreover, as per DOCTOR’S DATA lab results, “the parameters detected in Saakashvili’s hair are within the norm.”

Urtkhmelidze stressed that “the poisoning rumours, especially in a penitentiary, is absurd, ridiculous, and It’s already grotesque.”

“When it comes to Saakashvili’s alleged poisoning, it is not clear why the convict himself refuses to give samples,” he added.
