Speaker: We witnessed many difficult moments, but President's bloodshed threat is first of its kind

“Yesterday, Salome Zourabichvili claimed that the only peaceful solution for Georgia is new elections, effectively threatening the majority of the Georgian population with bloodshed if they do not abandon the choice made on October 26,” stated the Georgian Parliament Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili, during today’s briefing.

Papuashvili remarked, “We have witnessed many difficult moments throughout Georgia’s independence, but this is the first time that the current President of Georgia has threatened the population with bloodshed.”

He continued, “President Zourabichvili refuses to acknowledge the legitimate election results, where 2 million 60 thousand citizens freely expressed their will. She rejects the choice of the Georgian people, the elected government, and the elected president. Instead, she is seeking support from foreign nations to promote anti-constitutional and violent processes. Her own country, which has ultimately failed to become her homeland, is now at risk of chaos and destabilization through her actions. Fortunately, the current government possesses all the necessary means to prevent the dark intentions of hostile forces from succeeding. The Georgian people’s unwavering support is the foundation of this effort. Once again, they have demonstrated a clear understanding of the processes at play, leaving the radical opposition isolated, with only a few hundred supporters.”
