Speaker warns of potential 2020 scenario repeat, urges strong voter turnout
“We are seeing signs of preparations for October 27 that suggest a potential repeat of the 2020 scenario, when NGOs and opposition forces jointly attempted to change the government through undemocratic means,” Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili stated.
He explained that this is indicated by the partisan activation of non-governmental organizations and the fact that the opposition has essentially not conducted an election campaign.
“They are preparing to repeat the 2020 scenario, which is why everyone must come to the polls tomorrow and reject this scenario of betrayal. Our main strength lies in our numbers. Everyone should support the Georgian Dream and thereby support the peaceful development that we have ensured. Despite the opposition, certain NGOs and some foreigners pushing us toward national destruction, we haven’t yielded a single centimetre in this regard. This is why we’ve maintained both peace and economic growth, where we currently lead all of Europe. According to the International Monetary Fund’s forecast, Georgia will remain Europe’s fastest-growing economy through 2029. This is what they actually want to undermine,” Papuashvili declared.
