Speaker wants Lithuanian Embassy to explain why Lithuanian politician slams Georgian police
“I would like the Lithuanian Embassy to explain why a Lithuanian politician is slamming the Georgian police,” Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili told reporters.
According to him, the statement of MEP Petras Austrevicius, who demanded the designation of representatives of law enforcement agencies, namely the director of the Special Purpose Department Zviad Kharazishvili and the head of the Patrol Police Department Vazha Siradze, is an assault on the Georgian police.
“Yesterday, we once again witnessed an attack on the Georgian police by a member of the European Parliament, who is also a representative of the Lithuanian party in the ruling coalition. A blast on the police means an attack on the state. I would prefer to have the Lithuanian Embassy explain what we are dealing with, why is a Lithuanian politician slamming the Georgian police,” said Shalva Papuashvili.
Furthermore, Papuashvili recalled a statement from the Lithuanian Ambassador in 2021, called the actions of the police violence when Nika Melia was arrested.
“Later, the Strasbourg court confirmed that this was a legal measure and stated that the then statement of the Lithuanian Ambassador was not true. So, the then statement of the Lithuanian Ambassador, and now the statement of a Lithuanian politician who is also a representative of the pro-government party, these trends of attacks on the Georgian police are very sad. It would be good if the Lithuanian embassy clarified this issue because this is political, ideological support for the “Molotov cocktails” seen last March. Among them, the romanticization of the “Molotov cocktail” was done with the funding of the European Democracy Fund managed by the same MEPs,” Papuashvili said.
