Speaker: U.S. Embassy attempts to overshadow Trump’s positive message with unclear GD-linked post
“President Trump’s congratulatory message to President Kavelashvili is commendable. This message emphasizes two key points: the importance of strong U.S.-Georgia governmental cooperation and enhanced economic collaboration,” stated the Georgian Parliament Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili.
“Surprisingly, the U.S. Embassy has not published President Trump’s letter,” Papuashvili added.
“We had expected the strategic partnership to support closer economic ties, increased investment, and progress toward a free trade agreement, including favourable tariff conditions. President Trump’s message clearly echoed these priorities, which we have long advocated as central to our foreign and economic policy,” the Speaker stated.
Papuashvili expressed concern over the embassy’s communication approach following the letter.
“Instead of publishing President Trump’s congratulatory message, the embassy posted an unclear statement related to the Georgian Dream party. This creates the impression that there was an attempt to downplay the President’s positive message. It’s surprising, especially given past practices—for example when the Georgian translation of the Secretary of State’s congressional address was promptly distributed. Since the embassy represents the U.S. President, some explanation is likely needed,” he added.
