Speaker says without respect, others will think constitution is waste
“If we don’t respect our constitution, others will think that this constitution is a waste paper,” said the Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, in an interview with GPB First Channel’s ‘Actual Saturday with Maka Tsintsadze.
Papuashvili believes “the constitution needs our protection.”
“If we allow someone to say for his/her own taste or some noble purpose, the constitution is the constitution, but if the president and the head of state believe that there are other purposes that they personally consider superior, they may breach the law. It has nothing to do with the rule of law, Europe, nor with the Georgian legal tradition,” Papuashvili added.
