“The atmosphere of the discussion is calm and peaceful. I think the public’s support for this issue is clear. The silence of the opposition shows no criticism of this issue. Although, perhaps, the opposition does not dare to support us because of some fear and avoidance towards their patrons,” stated Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

According to him, the constitutional amendments under consideration will undergo thorough public debate.

“The will of the society should be reflected in the laws of our country. The arguments behind these amendments are straightforward. Given the growing challenges faced by our nation and global trends, it’s crucial to define the societal values and framework we want to uphold. Therefore, it’s important to address these issues promptly. We see that there are countries where it has reached the point that even top political figures are compelled to speak out against this propaganda. These discussions have reached absurd levels. Our ongoing discourse indicates that people recognize these risks and desire safeguards against them. As representatives of the Georgian people, the government ensures that their interests are protected,” Papuashvili stated.

The ruling Georgian Dream party has drafted constitutional amendments concerning family values and the protection of minors.
