Speaker says donors, embassies say nothing to distance themselves from NGOs stirring trouble
“The law served its purpose in many directions, among them transparency. It transparently showed the society that the opposition and one part of the NGO sector are in symbiosis,” said Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.
According to the Speaker, people saw collective UNM on stage yesterday.
“People saw a gathering of the United National Movement, which included the parties, Salome Zourabichvili, and affiliated NGOs taking up the stage together with the UNM. They were authors of the radicalization processes. I remind you that the parliament building was blocked, and police officers attacked at the call of NGOs. I have not heard any statements from donors or embassies distancing themselves from the recent attacks by NGOs funded from Europe and the US. This demonstrated what the real image of foreign influence means in Georgian reality,” he said.
The Georgian Parliament overrode President Salome Zourabichvili’s veto on the Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence on May 28.
