Speaker responds to UNM Chankotadze's warning over transparency bill
Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, responded to concerns raised by UNM member Devi Chankotadze during the parliamentary session.
Chankotadze expressed his viewpoint at the plenary, saying: “My advice, as a man, as a soldier, as a general, is to withdraw this law. It will lead to very dire consequences. I warn you: if even one person loses their life, it will have a very bad outcome. Withdraw this law.”
Papuashvili responded, saying, “As far as I’m aware, there are no plans for violent actions. If anyone is indeed considering such actions, I’m unaware of it; otherwise, I can’t envision any reason for concern at a peaceful rally. I call on participants to ensure that the rally remains peaceful and free from any provocations.”
The Parliament is currently discussing the draft law “On transparency of foreign influence” in the first reading.
