Speaker: President has yet to sign Merit Award for national football team

The Georgian Parliament Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili, stated that President Salome Zourabichvili has not yet signed the order awarding the members of the national football team and the coaching staff with the Order of Merit.

“As you know, back on April 4, the Prime Minister and I addressed President Zourabichvili with a request to award the members of our football team, as well as the members of the coaching staff, with the Order of Merit. We still do not have her letter and signature.

It is very sad and ultimately shows her attitude towards individual issues. There are certain issues where she acts when it is necessary for PR, but there is no response from her side when there are state issues.

On the one hand, this is very sad, but on the other hand, it is understandable. We are dealing with a person, who has overstepped the constitution and the country’s interest. What we are witnessing is that the president has been acting completely under external dictate. Whatever directives come from the outside regarding various issues, when to act, when to make statements, when to sign documents, she behaves accordingly,” Papuashvili said.
