Shalva Papuashvili, the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament, has declared that strategic partnership should not be misconstrued as tutelage.
“We are seeking partners, not caretakers,” Papuashvili stated. “To reset our relationships, we need sincerity and good faith.”
Papuashvili emphasized the importance of ceasing false accusations against the Georgian people and government.
“If someone intends to dictate our path based on their own interests, that will not work. Our 3,000-year history does not endorse such an approach. Throughout the past, many powerful nations have underestimated Georgia, assuming that our friendship would serve their needs. We have repeatedly asserted that restoring relationships requires honesty and integrity,” he stated.
“It is crucial to eliminate false accusations and narratives surrounding the Georgian people and government. We cannot continue on this path where, despite our efforts to foster partnership, our law enforcement officers are unjustly accused without acceptable evidence.
I recall a conversation with a former ambassador regarding visa restrictions for judges, where I expressed discontent at being told that the evidence was reported in the press.
This attitude is unacceptable and undermines the strategic partnership we strive to build globally. We expect our friends and partners to approach us with the same respect we show them,” Papuashvili remarked during an interview on Imedi Live.
