Speaker Papuashvili: Decision on granting EU candidate status to Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia should be based on geopolitics
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili held a meeting with his Finnish colleague Matti Vanhanen and the Finnish MPs.
At the meeting, the parties underlined the productive bilateral relations between the countries and stressed the positive development of the Parliamentary cooperation and the links between the Friendship Groups, the Parliament’s press office has said.
Speaker Papuashvili dwelt on the EU membership application made by Georgia and the respective expectations; he thanked Finland for supporting Georgia in its EU aspirations and overviewed the cooperation with NATO. He noted that against the Russian aggression in Ukraine, NATO membership acquires particular importance, the press office noted.
“We emphasized anew that the basis of [EU membership] applications from Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia was geopolitical and the decision should be based on it. For our part, the associated trio – Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia – have done everything possible to prepare our countries for this application,” Papuashvili stated.
