“It is a falsehood that they have withdrawn, or can withdraw their party lists; such withdrawal is not possible before the first session of Parliament,” stated Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.
The Speaker clarified that political parties may only withdraw the party lists of individuals who did not receive MP mandates. He further explained that while an individual can request the termination of their MP mandate, the final decision rests with Parliament.
Shalva Papuashvili elaborated on the procedure for convening Parliament’s first sitting following elections.
“The first sitting must be convened no later than 10 days after the Central Election Commission approves the final protocol, as this is an obligation. The President of Georgia sets the date for the first sitting. Likely, Madam Salome does not intend to establish this date. Regardless, Parliament will convene, and it will recognize the authority of 150 lawmakers through balloting,” he remarked.
