Speaker meets PACE President

The Georgian Parliament Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili, met with Theodoros Rousopoulos, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), in Budapest during the Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of the European Union and Partner Countries.

Papuashvili discussed the political situation in Georgia and preparations for the upcoming local elections. The parties also addressed the absence of a Georgian delegation to PACE, with Papuashvili referencing the January resolution that led MPs to withdraw from the Assembly.

He reaffirmed Georgia’s commitment to the core principles and values of the Council of Europe, emphasising that respect for the people’s choice is fundamental to democracy and that any disregard for this principle is unacceptable.

Both sides expressed a willingness to maintain a constructive dialogue.
