Speaker: Increased external interference reflects opposition's historic defeat
“The clearer the historic defeat of the opposition in the elections, the more aggressive the external interference in the electoral process becomes. This is undemocratic behaviour and contradicts the principles of international law, particularly the principle of non-interference,” stated Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.
Papuashvili expressed regret over the interference in the country’s internal affairs.
“It is disheartening to witness this behaviour from certain political actors or various commentators in the West, who disregard fundamental principles of international law while meddling in our internal processes. Their aggression intensifies daily as they recognize that the opposition has no chance in these elections, which will happen on October 26. The ultimate judgment from the people will be directed against the United National Movement and the parties associated with it,” Papuashvili concluded.
