Speaker deems GPB First Channel's new building opening 'historical event'

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili attended the opening ceremony of the new building of the GPB First Channel on Politkovskaya Street.

“I am pleased that, together with the members of Parliament, I can witness another historic moment in the First Channel,” Papuashvili stated.

In his speech, the Speaker said First Channel “serves a special function”, highlighting the Public Broadcaster’s special role “in a world full of misinformation.”

“As we are in a pre-election process, we should remember the conclusions that were published regarding previous elections; First Channel, Public Broadcaster in general, was almost the only one with no remark on its balance and objectivity. The First Channel team created this content.

I want to once again congratulate the First Channel, its management, and its employees on this special, historical event”, Papuashvili added.

GPB First Channel’s new building officially opened on Wednesday.
