“We expect the European Union to guard its values and make a fair, merit-based decision in December,” said Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.
According to the Speaker, representatives from approximately 130 countries, among them 50 parliament speakers, arrived in Luanda for the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, which allowed the Georgian delegation to speak about significant issues.
Shalva Papuashvili said he had met with chairs of parliaments from Belgium, Malta and Ireland and received positive signals confirming the positive attitude of their countries toward Georgia.
“This decision concerns not only Georgia but the European Union. It is significant that the unfair decision, which was made last year when Georgia was oppressed among the Associated Trio countries and did not receive the candidate status, is corrected,” he said.
Georgian parliamentary delegation, led by Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, participates in the 147th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Luanda, Angola, on October 23-27.
