Speaker expects France to take positive stance on Georgia's candidate status
Georgian Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said he expects France to take a positive stance on granting EU candidate status to Georgia.
Summing up his 3-day French visit, Papuashvili assessed the delegation’s meetings as “productive,” saying French colleagues believed leaving Georgia without candidate status was an “unfair” decision.
According to the Speaker, now, France has a different stance on the EU enlargement policy.
“Everyone understands Georgia is still the leader compared to Ukraine and Moldova. It deserves to fill the gap that occurred in the Associated Trio when Ukraine and Moldova received the status apiece. Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova should be on the same stage,” he said.
The Speaker, however, added that certain groups in the European Parliament still had a superficial attitude towards Georgian issues.
