Speaker dubs MEP's verbal assault on Georgian state as ideological incitement to violence
“Verbal attacks by foreigners on the Georgian police, on the Georgian state, are an ideological incitement to violence, which we later see against the police,” said Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Georgian Parliament.
Papuashvili recalled yesterday’s debates at the European Parliament and some MEPs’ statements regarding Georgia.
“We witnessed a rally that turned violent. These included attacks on journalists and police and throwing stones or other objects at police officers. There was verbal abuse. This will bring back memories of a particular group’s chanting and whose proposal was made at the moment. We remember all this from November 7th.
There is a special investigative service to deal with such cases, but we all observed different aggressive groups. There was violence against the police and obstruction of journalists. We witnessed attempts and calls to picket parliament during work hours; NGO representatives were among those vocatives. Let me recall the MEPs’ statements, attacks by foreigners on the police of Georgia, the Georgian state, are an ideological incitement to violence, which we see later against the police,” said Shalva Papuashvili.
