Speaker congratulates Turkish people on Republic Day

“This day represents a decisive moment in the Turkish people’s history and is a recognition of the strong values ​​of national independence, unity and democracy,” said Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili at the event dedicated to marking the 101st anniversary of the Republic Day of Türkiye.

Shalva Papuashvili stated that the history of extensive relations, cultural exchange and common interests links Georgia and Türkiye.
According to the Speaker, Georgia and Türkiye respect each other’s independence, sovereignty and identity.

“Türkiye’s unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is invaluable as well as Georgia’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Türkiye and trust with the Turkish people. The strategic partnership between our countries confirms the power of mutual respect and faithfulness to our people’s prosperity,” he said.

Shalva Papuashvili noted that Georgia-Türkiye cooperation comprises trade, energy, culture, education and other spheres.

He expressed hope that bilateral cooperation between Georgian and Turkish parliaments would continue for the benefit of the two nations.

“We are ready to promote the further development of our relations based on the existing cooperation. Our countries also share a desire for peace and stability both within our borders and in the region. Our common desire is to see a secure, well-connected and developed Black Sea region, and we are interested in the implementation of joint strategic projects. Taking into account today’s complex and unstable geopolitical reality, the promotion of regional projects is crucial for strategic stability, economic development and energy security.

I am convinced that this partnership will continue development for the benefit of our nations. On behalf of the Georgian parliament, I sincerely congratulate the Turkish people on this historic holiday. Republic Day is a public holiday in Turkey commemorating the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey, on 29 October 1923.
