Speaker confirms Parliament's intent to impeach President in November
“At the end of November, the Parliament will proceed with the impeachment of President Salome Zourabichvili, who is accused of violating the Constitution and disregarding established standards,” announced Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament.
According to the Speaker, the President made allegations on social media that school pupils are being asked to disclose their parents’ personal information, describing these claims as “disinformation and a blatant lie,” as previously stated by the Ministry of Education and Science.
“The schools and the Ministry of Education have access to information regarding parents, and this practice exists in all countries, including Georgia. Those of you who are parents are already aware that you are registered in the database as a trustee or representative of your child. Madam President has attempted to incite panic,” he asserted.
Papuashvili further remarked that the opposition and their affiliated NGOs are employing the same deceitful tactics as in the past.
“I would like to remind everyone that just three weeks before the 2018 parliamentary elections, three NGOs attempted to create a scandal regarding the printing of fake IDs. Neither the media nor the public could produce any evidence for the Prosecutor’s Office. Naturally, the objective was to create panic to manipulate public opinion,” he concluded.
